According to the BBC, a plan to ban smoking in cars carrying children is due to be put to a vote in the House of Lords today.
Another BBC story quotes James Cant, head of the British Lung Foundation Scotland, pointed to a 2010 NHS study in England which found that about 18% of children aged 11 to 15 were exposed to smoke in cars.

We thought we'd have a quick check of our own statistics on this issue.
We found a question used in four local authority studies in 2012 with over
12,000 pupils from Eastern Region, the West Midlands and the North East.
Does anyone smoke in a car when you are in it too?
Exactly 20% of all pupils in Years 8 and 10 answered yes.

It was interesting to note that the figures for boys were lower than given by girls,
and Year 8 figures were lower than for Year 10s, so that the figure for Year 10 girls was 24%. |
